Chinese Aluminum Extrusions Expected to be Slapped with Countervailing Duties +  


U.S. producers of aluminum extrusions claim that their Chinese competition has illegally gained a price advantage because of China’s undervalued currency, causing imports to increase dramatically, resulting in job loss in the domestic industry.

Despite its lack of a competitive advantage in paper production and natural resources to make paper, China has surpassed the U.S. to become the world’s leader in that department in just under a decade, according to a an EPI report released earlier this month.

When President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, he promised that the $787 billion stimulus package would create or save 3.5 million jobs over two years. The Obama administration argued for the stimulus, saying that without the bill the unemployment rate would reach 8.6 percent. But the current official unemployment rate stands at 9.6 percent.
